Burnhouse, a part of Townhead, was let to John Wyllie, an estate labourer, in 1771 and 1786, and then to James Bryan in 1793 after its house was rebuilt.
1851 census Margaret Smith (Peden) 67 Farmer Of 6 Acres And Annuitant, son William Smith annuitant daughters Margaret and Agnes all annuitants and 1 female domestic servant
1861 shows widow Margaret Smith 77, her daughter Margaret 46, daughter Agnes 44 and cousin Christina Morton 50 domestic servant.
Margaret died in 1864 age 80yrs
The 1871 census shows unmarried daughter Margaret Smith 55 at Burnhouse along with sister Agnes 52 and their housekeeper Christina Morton 60.
Margaret died in 1873
The 1881 census shows unmarried Agnes Smith 63 at Burnhouse. She is being nursed by Christina Morton 71.
The 1891 census shows Agnes Smith 73 still in Burnhouse living on private means along with Christina Morton 81 retired housekeeper. Also living there is Agnes Ferguson housekeeper and a young 13yrs old girl working as a general servant.
Christina Morton died at Burnhouse Cottage 8/5/1891 and Agnes Smith died at Burnhouse 13/6/1896.
In 1901 Burnhouse was occupied by Thomas Baird 44 an estate labourer and his wife Maria 29.
