Hill of Auchinleck, or Affleckhill, had several divisions, including Merlinhall and parks beside the village. Its houses built in 1785, its parks and divisions were let to Alexander Campbell in 1782 and 1791, to John Howet till Dec. 1784, to James Wilson, a tailor who had a house in Kirkland in 1787 and 1794, to William Halbert in 1787 and 1789, to James Grinlay in Merland in 1787 and 1790, to Janet Paton and her son in 1789, to David Moodie in Merland in 1790, and to Margaret Gibson in Merland in 1793. Its other parks were occupied by William Campbell, James Campbell, Hugh Peden and Robert Murdoch in 1791. See also High Park and Merlinhall.

The 1851 census for Hill shows John Peden a 65yr old Chelsea Pensioner living there with his wife Mary 48, daughters Mary 20 and Marion 17 both handsewers, son William 14, daughter Jane 11 and daughter Agness 7.
Another 1851 census for Hill shows David Peden a 32yr old gardener living there with his wife Margaret 27 and their daughter Jane Train Peden 5.
The 1861 census shows Mary Peden 59 now a widow seamstress living in Hill Cottage with her son William who is a joiner, daughter Jane a 21yr old dressmaker and daughter Agness 17 a hand sewer.
The 1871 census shows Mary 68, son William 34 and daughter Agnes 26 still living in Hill Cottage.
The 1881 census shows William who is a joiner and his sister Agnes who is a machinist living in Hill Cottage.
The 1891 census for Hill shows joiner William living there with his sister Agnes who is the housekeeper.
The 1901 census for Hill Cottage has William and his sister Agnes still living there.
