Bowes Farm, New Cumnock

Location of Bowes Cottage  Bowes is on the Mansfield estate.

Bows Cottages OS First edition - see also Mansfield Mains

Clayslaps meadow located to the south of Bowes on the Roy map. Switch to the map showing acreage and there is a long lonning from near to Bowes south to a 7.9 acre field on the river bank.

1833 the website New Cumnock History. com has "Two fields in Clayslaps with pendicle attached" with John Picken, tenant. There is also a John Picken at Mansfield Mains, an adjacent property to Bowes in 1851.

There is also a Bowes Farm at Old Cumnock. Think the "farm" here may have been no more than a field, but Bowhouse, or Bowes Cottages seems to have housed several families - or perhaps all the Beattie families.
From the census details for the family below, this appears to be a house(s) associated with the same ~8 acres and must have helped support the Beattie family.
