The tenant is James Young.
However, the 1851 census has James Young retired from farming and living in Townhead street, Cumnock.

Farming North and West Hill is James Crichton 38, with his wife Elizabeth 31, and children Sarah 4 and Charles 2. The farm is 132 acres, and it is possible that Stairhill has been amalgamated with Hill. Stair hill cottages are occupied by agricultural workers.

The Valuation Rolls show it as a house only by 1875, occupied by James Murray, and owned by the Marquis of Bute, still listed as Old Cumnock.
