Craigs Farm, New Cumnock

There are two farms near here on Blackcraig hill, Craig farm, Blackcraig farm, Craigdarroch, and fields in Glen Afton.....and gold.......

Location Craig Farm is at 55 20 00N, 4 09 17W.

Craig - A farmhouse occupied by James Henderson, herd, property of the Marquis of Bute

The 1841 census for Craigs shows Andrew Williamson 35 farming there assisted by his wife Janet 65, Robert Hewetson 20 an agricultural labourer and Walter Ramsay a 7yr old agricultural labourer.

The 1851 census shows Craigs being occupied by Margaret Henderson 30 shepherd's wife, children Susanna 5, James 2, an infant and Helen Welch 40 a general servant who is a lodger.

The 1861 census shows the Hendersons still living there - Thomas a 45yr old shepherd, wife Margaret 42 and children James 12, Agnes 10, David 7, Margaret 5, Frances (male) 5 and John 3mths.

The 1871 census shows William Clement 36 shepherd, wife Elizabeth 32, son Robert 8mths, Sarah Clement his 65yr old mother and Hannah Love a 14yr old general domestic.

The 1881 census - cannot find

The 1891 census shows Craigs now being occupied by Hugh Vallance a 53yr old shepherd and  his daughters Jane A. who is the housekeeper, Sarah 14 and Janet 12.

The 1901 census shows Andrew Hutchison 61 shepherd, his wife Mary 56 and daughter Mary 22.
