Originally two farmsteads, Shield was amalgamated into Taiglim at least in part, before the Valuation Rolls of 1855.  Certainly, John Murdoch tenanted the lands of both properties by that date. It is often difficult to untangle amalgamated farms because they may have been taken over piecemeal, rather than at one episode.
