North Palmerston, Ochiltree


The Horse Tax Rolls for 1797/98 only have an entry for Palmerston - James Duncan, 2 horses
The Land Tax Rolls 1645 to 1831 list Alexander Don Esq. Palmerston and Barebelly

by 1901 the census entry is for Laigh Palmerston

North and South Palmerston are divided by Palmerston Plantation to the east of Palmerston Mount in Ochiltree.

1861 John Duncan 83 farmer of 60 acres with son John 55, his wife Margaret 31, and their children John 9, Janet 8, James 5, Mary 2 and Robert 1. They have farm workers James Rorison 18, ploughman and Barbara Caldow domestic.
1871 John Duncan 64 and wife Margaret 40 farming 85 acres, 83 arable employing 2 labourers.
Their family are sons John 20, James 15, Robert 11, Edward 7, Peter 3, and William under 1. their daughters are Janet 18, Mary 12, Margaret 9, Agnes 5.  George Burges is a boarder 55.
1881 census shows John Duncan 74 and wife Margaret 50 farming 60 acres arable employing 1 man and 1 woman.  Daughter Mary 22 is the dairymaid. Also residing at North Palmerston are children Margaret 19, Edward 17, Agnes 15, Peter 12, William 10 and Ann 8.
1891 John Duncan 84, wife Margaret 60, sons Edward 27 and Peter 22 and daughter Annie 18.
1901 Edward Duncan 37 and wife Annie 40 with children John 7, Jane Bowman 5, and Charles McIntyre 3 with Alexander Peden Rorieson 28, farm servant.
