The 1851 census for March shows John Howatson 52 farmer of 15 acres, his wife Jean 48, daughter Mary 12, daughter Janet and son William 7.

The 1861 census for March shows John Howatson 62 farmer of 100 acres, his wife Jean, daughter Janet 19 and visitor John Howatson 67 farmer.

Further censuses show John Howatson at Over Cairn although Probate for 1883 shows he died at March. Was this the same farm?

Valuation Roll: no entries for a farm and no entries at all until 1925 when James Campbell (who had bought Pollosh and Lochbrowan) is shown as the proprietor of a house with a tenant.
