He was there until his death in 1859.
William Steel died there  in 1865. He was in Mossback in 1861
1881 census shows William Haddow 59, His wife Catherine (Robertson widow of William Steel)  55, and three step children, Matthew Steel 20 (later to take over the farm), John Steel 18, and Catherine Steel 16.
They farm 110 acres employing 2 men and 1 girl.

The  McGarvie  family  moved  to  Calton, Cumnock.

Netherton was ( except  for  the  holm  field north of  the back New Cumnock road ,which  is  now in  with Bowes) opencasted - as  was   the western  half  of  Muirdyke, all the  low  ground  on  Meikle Auchengilsie , and  Milzeoch  in  its  entirety.
