High Boig, New Cumnock

Location near Bank Glen

Using the slider to see the present day satellite image, you can see the merest outline of the row of buildings that was High Boig. The map and image are slightly out of sync, but the access road is clearly visible.

Scotlands Places of 1855/57 describes it as a farm house occupied by John Hyslop Esq. of Bank. He appears to have used it as a residence for his agricultural workers.

1841 census has 3 families of ag labs Hugh Wilson  50 wife Elizabeth 5 children and 1 ag lab also William Murdoch 50 wife Margaret (Hutchieson)  and 4 children and another household with Elizabeth Kerr 35 ag lab

1881 census Robert Hancock 32, a Cornish born lead miner is living at 9 and 10 High Boig

Valuation Roll 1885 6 tenanted houses shown.  1915-40 prop John D Boswell,  tenant George Caldwell.
