The 1841 census shows John Murdoch 54 a mason occupying Gallalee with his wife Jacobina (McCulloch) 50, dtr Elizabeth 25, son James 20 a labourer, son David 15 a tile worker and son William 11.
The 1851 census shows Gallowlee House being occupied by Andrew Murdoch 34 a stonemason, his wife Agnes Wallace and ch. Agnes 12, John 10, David 8. Andrew 6, Alexander 4 and Jacobina 1.
(David married Mary Meikle, Rigghead, New Cumnock. She died age 23 in 1868 and David emigrated to North Carolina where he died)
