Blackfarden, New Cumnock

See also the post for House O'Water, as the two properties appear to have been amalgamated at some point. 
The 1841 census shows James Houston 24 farming with his wife Mary 26, their children Mary 3 and William 1, John Hyslop 30 an agricultural labourer and 2 female servants.

The 1851 census shows  George Campbell 54 Farmer of 100 Acres with his wife wife Agnes (Cook) 44, son David A Campbell 17 working as a farm servant, son Thomas 15 also a farm servant, son George 11, son William 3, 1 female house servant and visitor John Johnston a tailor.
(George Campbell was in Dettingen, Old Cumnock in 1841)

The 1861 census shows Deborah Dick (Wells) 51, a bower, living there with her daughters Margaret 21, Ellen 15 and Janet 13, 1 lodger who is a coalminer and 1 lodger who us an agricultural labourer.

The 1871 census shows Blackfarden now occupied by Andrew Kay 33 an agricultural labourer, his wife Margaret (McClanachan) 34, dtr Elisa 13, dtr Sarah 11 and son John 9.

1881 No census entry found for Blackfarden, but the valuation roll suggests that the lands of Blackfarthing are let to Hugh Craig who resides at House O'Water.

IN 1855-7 place names OS1/3/49/34 - A small farm house occupied by George Campbell. The property of Sir John Cathcart.
