1871 and Jean 70, is a widow and James 41 has taken over the farm. Janet 47 is housemaid, and Mary 32 is a dairymaid. Their servants are William Jelly 32, John McCracken 18, ploughman, and William Park 13. Jean Dorans 18 is the general servant.

The 1881 census shows James Sloan 49, farming 144 acres arable employing 1 man, 1 boy, and 1 girl.
His mother Jean 80, sisters Janet 55 and Mary 41, are all living with him on the farm with three farm servants.
1891 census shows James Sloan 58 sister Janet 66 as dairymaid and 4 other servants, Ann Kilpatrick 27, John Taylor 20, Robert Taylor 17, and Elizabeth Wilson 17.
1901 and James Sloan is 72, with wife Marion 50. Sister Janet 50, is housekeeper and they have three servants Elizabeth Clows 20, Helen Clows 18, and David Miller 31.
