'Burnock Mill was located by the side of the Burnock Water, two miles to the south of Ochiltree. The building was three storeys in height and had a medium sized kiln within it. The mill workings were driven by a bucket-type wheel which could produce around ten horsepower. Within the mill were three pairs of stones, one for shelling oats, one for finishing oatmeal, and the third for *provender. In the 1920s the mill received new workings, provided by Messrs George MacCartney & Co. of Cumnock. These were of the bevelled gear type. The building survived having been converted into a house'.
