Horse Tax 1797-98 James Samson, Broomholm 3 horses one taxed. Given that the land of Broomfield is basically a holm, on the Lugar, and that later, there were Samsons in the next farm but one, (Knockroon) this seems likely.

Broomfield is in Auchinleck Parish on censuses up to 1891. The 1901 census shows it to be in the Parish of Cumnock.

"For leisure, farmers' enjoyed the annual ploughing competition held by the farmers of 'Glenmuir and Bello Waters'. In 1890 it was held at Broomfield Farm nr Cumnock".

The 1861 census for Broomfield, Auchinleck shows George Findlay 56 farming 66 acres with the assistance of his wife Ann B 49, son William 27 a farm servant, daughters Helen 24 and Kathrine 22 both dairymaids, daughter Margaret 16 a farm servant, son James 13, and son George 18 who is a joiner.

Also living there are 6 boarders who consist of 4 gentlemen and 2 boys Alan Taylor 11 and James Taylor 9 who are scholars,
The 1891 census for Broomfield Farm, Auchinleck shows John Kennedy 50 farming there with his wife Isabella 49, son-in-law Charles B Livingstone 26 who is a farmer's assistant and 3 female domestic servants. There are 6 boarders.consisting of 2 widow annuitants, and 4 males living on private means.
On the 1901 census Broomfield is now in the Parish of Cumnock. John Kennedy now 60 is still farming there along with his wife Isabella Campbell 60, grand-daughter Isamina Livingstone 11 and 1 female general domestic servant. They have 11 boarders - James McIntosh a 19yrs old farm pupil, Archibald M Thomas 55 a retired wine merchant, Jane Blake a 50yr old single woman living on her own means, Robert Kinnear 51 a retired salesman and John Hamilton a coal miner and his wife Jane and their 5 children age 13yrs and under.

The farmhouse is now Cumnock Rugby Football Club and is called Broomfield House
