John Creichtoun, son of Robert Creichtoun of Auchtitench had a price on his head (dead or alive) for being with Richard Cameron at the Sanquhar Declaration, 1680. The Creichtoun later settled at Waterhead on the upper reaches of the Nith. (Robert Guthrie)

The 1851 census shows John Henderson 44 farmer and his wife Ann (Ballantyne) 36 farming Auchititench. Also living there were their children Katran 14, Thomas 9, Margaret 10, David 5, Agnes 3 and Jennet 1.
The 1861 census shows John Henderson 54 farming 900 acres assisted by his wife Mary 48 (Mitchell), children David 14, Agnes 12, Jessie 11, Robert 9, John 7, Mary Y. 4, George 2 and Elizabeth 8 months.
The 1871 census shows John Henderson 64 farming 760 acres along with his wife Mary 36, son John 17 who is a shepherd, dtr Elizabeth 10, son George 7 and niece Ann Davidson 15 servant.
In 1881 census shows Thomas Watson 39 is a shepherd at Auchtitench. His wife is Elizabeth 29, is also living there.
The 1891 census shows Thomas Watson 48, shepherd, still living there with his wife Elizabeth 38 and a boarder James Brown 62 who is a hawker.
