Auchlin - Ochiltree

Auchlin is in the parish of Ochiltree, 1900 location here

A ancient cist or stone burial chamber was found on the land in 1904. Canmore

1790 Old Cumnock OPR John Sloan of Auchlinn in Ochiltree and Agnes Calder near Dumfries House were proclaimed twice  but never married.

On 4th  July 1803 William  Sloan  married  Sarah Tennant  of Glenconner. She was sister to Charles Tennant ( 3rd May 1768 to 1st October 1838 ) who  invented bleaching powder  , and  founded the  St Rollux chemical works , and  the  family  were   eventually enobled. Charles Tennant was  a  friend  of  George Stephenson, and  pioneered railways into Glasgow . He  also set up  William  Sloan ( his  sister Sarah's son ) with ships , which  became a major Glasgow shipping line  William Sloan.

William Sloan died 25/9/1843 at Auchlin. His son Robert Cowan Wilson died in March 1851 and his widow Martha Hamilton carried on at the farm
