Not to be confused with Burnside Chalmerston which remained in the Parish of Stair. This seems to have been three houses which were occupied by various workers.

The 1851 census for Burnside, Stair shows William Smith 57, a gardener, living there with his wife Lilias 62 and daughter Isabella 10. They are being visited by Mary Colvel who is a milliner.
The 1861 census for Burnside, Stair shows William Smith 68 farming 5 acres with the assistance of his wife Lillias 72. Also living there is their son William a 32yr old corn miller and their grandson John Alexander 13.
The 1871 census for Burnside, Stair shows William Smith 79 is now a widower gardening 5 acres with his unmarried son William 42 who is a labourer, their unmarried daughter Isabella 40 who is now a milliner and Agnes McLeod 22 a general domestic.
The 1881 census for Burnside, Stair shows widower William Smith 90yrs old and a gardener, his son William who is now married and farming 5 acres and William's wife Elizabeth 32.
The 1891 census for Burnside, Stair shows William Smith 62 gardener and his wife Elizabeth Hamilton age 42yrs.
