By the time of his death, on 9 October 1809, he farmed at Holehouseholm. A summary of his will [Glasgow Commissariot Testaments, 1800-1877, No 77, p115 Alexander Vallance, tenant of Holehouseholm in Old Cumnock .... widower of Grizel Dickie ... left a cow, two stirks, some hay and corn and a few articles of household furniture and other effects valued at £40.15s .... cautioner John Vallance, wright in Paisley for Grizel Dickie, widow, etc, executor ... subscribed at Paisley 10 December 1810. Witnesses .... James Thomson, foreman to Hugh Vallance & Co linen merchants in Paisley. The will details are from a transcription made by the late Mr J.F. Mitchell. Grizel Dickie's implied decease did not in fact take place until at least 1841
