The 1841 census for Blackcraig shows Thomas Lees 25, Jane Lees 25, Andrew Lees 1yr, Jane Smith 60 and Margaret Dalziel 15
The 1851 census shows Jane Welsh 85 domestic affairs, her son John Welsh 45 who is a shepherd and daughter Agnes Welsh 50 who is a general servant.
The 1861 census for Blackcraig shows son James Welsh 43yr old shepherd living there with his wife Janet Lammie 33, infant daughter Elizabeth H Lammie and Janet Dempster an 11yr old general servant.
The 1871 census shows James Lammie 49 shepherd still living there with his wife Janet 45 and 7yr old son John.
The 1881 census for Blackcraig shows James Welsh 59 shepherd, son John Welsh a 17yr old shepherd's assistant, Elizabeth Lammie 42 who is housekeeper and boarder James Harvey a 79yr old mason's labourer.
The 1891 census shows Matthew P Fraser 25 farming Blackcraig assisted by his wife Janet J Fraser 25, housekeeper Ann McLauchlin 32 and John Walls (Welsh?) a 28yr old shepherd.
The 1901 census shows Blackcraig now being farmed by unmarried John McWilliam 39. He employs a housekeeper Elizabeth J Lind 32, 14 yr old Isa McKnight a domestic servant and shepherd George Thorburn 43.
There is an 1881 census for Over Blackcraig which shows Peter Murdoch 34 shepherd, wife Mary (McWhirter) 36, daughters Catherine 10, Sarah 5 & Agnes 3 and son Peter 1.
