The lands of Boghead and Tarrioch, at the north-east end of the parish, were in the sixteenth century owned by Ninian Bannatyne of Kames.

At Tarrioch and Cronberry the lands were owned by John Reid who received a charter under the Great Seal in 1607. This describes him as John Reid, then in Rogerton, heir of John Reid of Rogerton. The lands mentioned in the charter were the two Bannatyneyards, the two Tarriochs, Boghead, and Cronberry ('Crondarrie') formerly owned by Hector Bannatyne of Kames.

The two Tarriochs, Upper and Nether, subsequently became the property of the Duke of Portland. The farms were abandoned, the land being attached to Nether Wellwood.

Limestone was also quarried at Boghead, Tarrioch, Springhill and Dornal from where it was transported by horse and cart to the kilns.
