The 1881 census shows James McCrone 33 in Greenside Farmhouse farming 450 acres of which 200 are arable and employing 1 girl. Also living there are his wife Janet 37, children John 11, Jessie 9, Isabella 7, Robert 5, Margaret 2, infant James, father-in-law Robert Forsyth 77 who is a widower and 1 female general domestic. They are being visited by Mary McCrone a 26yr old dressmaker.
By 1891 this family had moved to Kells, Kirkcudbrightshire.
NB. This is the only census I could find for Greenside, Auchinleck. Possibly the other censuses came under Shawfield.
