Dalblair, Auchinleck


Barony of Glenmure -pp 220,221
Dalblair was acquired with Hole of Dalblair  from James Gibb in 1767. It was let in 1780 to Andrew Howatson of Craigdarroch and Robert Chisholm, to James Wear from 1782 to 1793, and then to John Gemmell.
Hole of Dalblair, a part of Dalblair, was let to James Lochie in 1787 and James Campbell in 1788.

Robert Chisholme formerly residing in Dalblair d 1784 buried Cumnock. (on register but died 'sometime last winter')

1851 Census
Dalblair is a collection of houses serving the estate of David Limond Esq.
 The proprietor David Limond 79, lives in Dalblair Cottage along with his wife Marion and a collection of servants.
They are Barbara Preson 39, cook
Helen Turner 36, ladies maid
Ann McCleland 24 table maid
and James Campbell 63 butler
The 1861 census shows John McNeil a garden labourer, Charles Currie a gamekeeper and Agnes Harvie a domestic cook all living in Dalblair Cottage.
The 1871 census shows David Brown a gardener living there.
1881 - unable to locate
The 1891 census shows Todd Carr a gamekeeper living in Dalblair Cottage with his wife Isabella and their 2 children.
The 1901 census shows Dalblair Cottage being occupied by gamekeeper William Alexander, his wife Jane and their 3 children.


The 1851 census shows Robert Brown 31 is a coachman living in Dalblair with his wife Marian 37 and children Hugh 8, Marion 2, and Ann 1 in one of the houses.

The 1851 census shows David Vallance 45, is their shepherd living in Dalblair with his daughters Jannet 17, and Agness 3 and sons Hugh 13, John 11 and Alex 4.

The 1851 census shows Alexander Hamilton 74 is their farm manager in charge of 100 acres arable and 3000 acres of moor.
His wife Jane (Hair) 48, and children Jane 13, John 12, Mary 10, George 7 live with him and also servants John Tweedie 56, John Henderson 27, shepherd, Jane Brown 18, house maid, and John Goldie 16.  There is also James Barr 13, listed as a schoolmaster.
The 1861 census shows Jean Hamilton 58 as farmer of 90 acres emp 2 men & 1 boy. She s assisted by her daughter Jane 23, son John 22, daughter Mary 20, son George 17, 1 shepherd, 1 ploughman and 1 male cow herd.

The 1871 census shows unmarried shepherd James Anderson and 1 dairymaid at Dalblair.
Another 1871 census shows James Morgan a 56 year old widowed agricultural labourer and 1 female servant also living at Dalblair.
The 1901 census for Shepherd's House Dalblair shows William Dickson a 28yr old shepherd, his wife Jessie and their 2 young children living there. They are being visited  by a tablemaid.
