Stonebriggs to which Dalfad was later added was acquired from John Begg of Dornal in 1752-1755. It was let to Alexander Mitchell of Hallglenmuir from 1763-1780. In 1781 the lease was taken over by John Paterson , who may have been the mason from Chapelton in Lanarkshire contracted to build a furnace in 1787 at the Muirkirk Ironworks. Stonebriggs was then let to William Gibson in 1787 and 1790 and to John Gibson in 1797.
