1841 Census shows John Harper 50 farmer and wife Jane (Vass) with 10 Harpers with ages ranging from 25 to 4 presumably their children.
1851 census shows John Harper 62 and his wife Jane 58 farming 100 acres employing 2 labourers. Living there also are their sons Robert 38, John 27, Grace 18, James 16, grand-daughter Jane14, 2 Male agricultural labourers, 1 house servant and 1 visitor.
1861 Census shows Andrew Wilson 36 farming 205 acres with his wife Barbara (Craig), 3 sons age 3yrs and under, 1 boy servant, 2 female domestic servants, 1 dairymaid, 1 Male general servant and 1 ploughman.
1871 Census shows George Caldwell (previously Cairnhill) farming 200 acres arable with his wife Mary (McKerrow), son William 26, daughter Margaret 23 dairymaid, son James 18, daughter Mary 10, daughter  Janet 8, daughter Elizabeth 5, mother Elizabeth 86, 2 female general servants and David Weir age 15 a scholar/boarder.
1881 census shows George Caldwell 60 and wife Mary 59 farming 280 acres arable employing 2 men and 1 girl.  Their two daughters Mary 21 and Elizabeth 16 live with them, and also general servant Janet Gray, 19 and two farm servants William Kay 16 and William Ronald 40.
1891 Census shows George Caldwell 70 farming with his wife Mary 69, brother William 80, James H Stevenson 26 farmer’s assistant and his wife Elizabeth J Stevenson who is George and Mary’s daughter, 1 dairymaid, 1 female general domestic and 1 Male farm servant.
George Caldwell died 31/1/1901 in South Boig. He was pre-deceased by his daughter and James H Stevenson’s wife Elizabeth Jamieson Caldwell Stevenson who died 7/3/1892 in Rottenyard.
1901 Census shows James H Stevenson 35 , now a widower, farming Rottenyard with the help of his sister Janet A Stevenson 27, 1 ploughman, 1 Male farm servant, 1 dairymaid and 1 female general domestic..

Auld Kirkyard Lair Ref: 134
Erected by George McKenzie IARO his loving wife Mary Caldwell who died at Rottenyard 25/6/1894 age 34yrs. Also Pte Archibald McKenzie, Sherwood Forresters MGC, son of the above who died 27/1/1918 28.
(Pte. McKenzie contracted TB while in France and after a spell in Trent Bridge Hospital, Nottingham, he was brought to Glenafton Sanitorium where he died. He was brought back to New Cumnock through the good offices of the Duchess of Portland) - per New Cumnock website
Archibald and his twin George were born at Rottenrow Farm. He enlisted when working as a ploughman at South Boig - Auld Kirkyard Soldiers New Cumnock Heritage Trail

James Hyslop Stevenson died 21/8/1954 in Rottenyard.
