Defad or Dalfad was acquired with Carbellow in 1762 and attached to Stonebriggs.

The 1851 census shows Robert Baird 63 farming 50 acres arable with his wife Agnes Maider 63, 1 male servant and 2 female servants.
The 1861 census shows Hugh Gibson 49 farming 140 acres employing 1 man and 2 women with his wife Mary 28, son Alexander 6, dtr Catherine 5, son Robert 3, dtr Mary 1, 2 female domestic servants and 1 shepherd.
The 1871 census shows Hugh Gibson 58 farming Dalfad with his wife Mary 38 housekeeper, dtr Catherine 15, son Robert 14, dtr Mary 12, son John 10, son William 8, son David 6, dtr Margaret 4, dtr Janet 2 , baby dtr Ann and 1 shepherd.
Hugh Gibson died in 1876.
The 1881 census shows David Gibson 64 farming Dalfad.  There is no indication of acreage. Also living at Dalfad are:

The 1901 census shows Dalfad being farmed by John Gibson 39 and his wife Jane 34, their sons Hugh 4 and William 1, brother David 36 who is a byreman, 1 female general servant and 1 Male general servant.
