Mains or Auchinleck Mains was let in 1784 and 1798 to Andrew Dalrymple, the baron officer who also rented ploughed land in Barnsdale and grazing in Woodside Park.

The 1851 census shows James Templeton 43, an agricultural labourer occupying Mains with his wife Elizabeth (Kirkland) 36 and children Janet 11, George 7, William 5 and Agness 2.
The 1861 census shows Auchinleck Mains still being occupied by James Templeton 53 a ploughman and his wife Elizabeth, dtr Janet 21 a domestic servant, sons George 17 and William 15 agricultural labourers and daughter Agnes 12.
On a separate 1861 census Jane Wilson 59 an unmarried washerwoman is listed as living at Auchinleck Mains.
The 1871 census for The Mains shows Jane Wilson 69 and unmarried agricultural labourer living there alone.
The 1881 census for Mains shows Jane Wilson 79 and unmarried living there.
There is also a separate 1881 census showing David Lamb 21 an unmarried Forester and Domestic Sevant living at Mains alone.
The 1891 census shows Robert Donald 54, a ploughman, living at Mains with his wife Margaret 56.
The 1901 census shows Robert Donald, estate carter and ploughman, still occupying Mains with his wife Margaret 66.
