Thirdpart - sometimes known as Roadinghead of Thirdpart was let to John Reid in 1782 and 1791. In 1791 it was let for three years for grazing horses and black cattle to David Murdoch who was then in the village and would later rent Dalsalloch West. Its house was occupied by Catherine McFarlane, widow of James Johnson, in 1792 and 1795. It was afterwards let to William Smith in 1795 and 1798.

John Murdoch young man age 8 formerly residing in Thirdpart died 16/6/1782 - smallpox. Buried Sorn. Died in house of John Reid.
John Smith formerly residing in Thirdpart buried 2/5/1833. Hearse used.
The 1851 census for Thirdpart shows widower (late wife Jean Sloan) James Smith 48 farmer of 120 acres employing 3 men and a boy assisted by his son William age 14 who is employed on the farm, daughter Jane 12 who is employed at home, 1 housemaid, 1 ploughman, 1 agricultural labourer who is also a woodcutter, 1 cattle herd and 2 female house servants.
The 1861 census for Thirdpart shows James Smith 58 farming 200 acres employing 2 men & 2 boys assisted by his son William 24, daughter Jean 22, 1 ploughman, 1 male servant, 1 dairymaid, and 1 female domestic servant.
The 1871 census for Thirdpart shows James Smith 69 farming 260 acres of which 196 are arable employing 1 man, 1 boy, 3 women. He is assisted by his son William 34 and William's wife Ellen 34 (Peden) who is housekeeper, and who have 3 children, James 6, William 2 and John P. an infant. 2 male farm servants and 3 female domestics also live there.
The 1871 census for Thirdpart Byre shows Alexander Dixton an 87yr old vagrant and former soldier (born in Gibraltar) and his wife Sarah Dixton 84 sleeping there.
James Smith died in 1880
1881 Census for Thirdpart shows William Smith 44 farming 225 acres arable employing 2 men and 2 women. He is assisted by his wife Ellen P 44 and 5 children under 16. They have four employees living in - John Train and William Miller farm servants, Janet Wilson dairymaid and Elizabeth McLaghlan a domestic.
The 1891 census for Thirdpart shows William Smith 54 farming Thirdpart with his wife Ellen 54, 2 sons James 26 & John 20, 2 dtrs Margaret 18 & Jane 14, 2 female domestic servants and 1 male servant.
The 1901 census for Thirdpart shows son John Peden Smith 30 now farming Thirdpart along with his wife Marion 29 (Symington Wilson - Findlayston Ochiltree) and their 1 month old son William, 1 monthly nurse, 1 ploughman, 2 male farm servants, 1 dairymaid and 1 byrewoman

The Thirdpart farm steading can be seen immediately in front of the Barony Power Station , just to the left of the A frame. The photo shows work starting for the construction of a new escape shaft after the fatal accident at Barony Colliery.
