Mosshouse, Auchinleck

Mosshouse was north west of  the  Cumnock /Muirkirk turnpike road.
now part of Carbello

Mosshouse or Clewmoss was let to Thomas Pearson in 1782 and 1790 and to Janet Vallance, his widow, in 1794 and 1797.

In 1861 James Pearson 70  Farmer Of 50 Acres Emp 1 Girl ( an eleven year old Irish girl Ann McQueen! (if the census is to be believed)

By 1871 son John Pearson 30 is in charge

1881 census shows John Pearson 40 farming 43 acres employing 1 girl.  Living with him are his brother Robert 36, coal carter and wife Janet (McIntyre) 30, brother William 51 a labourer at an iron pit, and three children James 6, Mary 3, and Janet 1. Barbara Bridget 19 is their housemaid and they have a visitor Daniel Lynch 52 with no fixed employment.

The 1891 census shows James Pearson 28 a bower living in Mosshouse Farm with his wife Maggie 28 and George Partridge who is a grocer's assistant boarding.

The 1901 census shows William Anderson 39 farmer (bower) living there with his wife Fanny 39 and their 7 children ages ranging from 17yrs to 2yrs.

Charles Grant 49 farm manager with wife and son.
