Low Carston, Ochiltree

This  Carston is north west of the new cemetery, on the  Mauchline  road.
On the Roy map of 1755 the name is Kerrstown

Census 
1841 Mrs Jane Gibson 40 with Jennet 14, John 12, Hugh 10,Margaret 8, James 6, Archibald 4, Robert 2, and William 6 months.
1851 Jane Gibson 52, a widow is farmer of 40 acres employing 2 labourers.  John 23, Archibald 13, Robert 12 and William 10 are with her.

1861 Robert Hutton 34 and wife Agnes 42 are farming 62 acres employing 1 man.  Marion Telfer 49 is a boarder and a fundholder.  Peter Thom 32 is a ploughman and Jane Pettigrew 20 is a dairymaid.

1871 Thomas Dick 58 and Janet 54 his wife are farming 62 acres arable employing 1 man.  Their son John Ross Dick 32 is a railway clerk, and daughters Jane 21, Margaret 19, and Janet 16 are resident

John Murdoch moved here from Burnockmill.
1881 census John Murdoch 65 and Agnes Somervil Wilson 4 are at Low Carston. John Murdoch is listed as a grain miller and farmer. The farm is 74 acres arable employing 3 men and 4 girls.  Also at Carston are; daughters Sarah 26, and Agnes 22, and son David 19.  John Gemmell grandson is also resident aged 1 month.

1891 census  John Murdoch and Agnes S Wilson are still at Carston

1901 John Sturgeon 56, wife Annie Jane 57, and daughters Isabella 26, and Janet 15, and son Robert 24.

Sold by the Morton family when they purchased Auchinbay farm and formed the Morton's Milk business.
Bought  by   the  Watsons from  Creoch, Ochiltree, before  they  sold  it again, on  moving  to  High Mark near  Portpatrick.

Now  a  feed   depot.
