Scotlands Places for 1855/57 describes Crosshill as "A superior farm house with offices etc the property of the Marquis of Bute occupied by John Robertson" , father of Duncan Robertson.
1851 census Crosshill shows John Robertson 67 farmer wife children and 1 lad. John died in 1857 and his son Duncan took over
