This seems to have endured as a smallholding, as this announcement in the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald of 1898 shows, although this name does not appear on the Valuation Roll.
In 1897 William Main was living at Bankend. This seems a likely candidate for William Main in Cumnock Connections based entirely on his occupation.

1861 Matthew Sharp 51, ironstone miner with wife Ann 50, daughters Elizabeth 13 and Agnes 11, and son Matthew 8.
1871 Burnaltrees, Ann Howat or Sharp 62 farming six and a half acres arable employing 1 boy. Daughter Agnes 21, dairymaid, Son Matthew 18, joiner, and James S Hodge 1, grandson.
1881 Ann Sharp 72 widow and her son and daughter living at Barnwelltrees. The farm is 4 acres (about the size of one field) employing 1 woman. Daughter Agnes is 31, and son Matthew 28 is employed as a joiner. James T. Hodge 11, grandson is also living with them.
Census records don't have any listing after 1881, but it appears to have been used by William Main as a market garden.
In 1930 it was lumped in with nearby Horsecleugh farm with Matthew Stoddart who died in 1954 as the tenant and the trustees of Lord Skerrington the proprietor. Living in properties (bothies?) on Burnwelltrees were tenants Robert Gilliland retired ploughman and James Kay ploughman.
