1861 Census- Borland James McKerrow - farmer of 135 acres emp 2 men, 1 woman and a boy
+ 1 son and 1 dtr, 1 dairymaid, 1 AL (m) and 1DS (f)  This James McKerrow died in 1863 aged 73

James McKerrow 50 farming 166 acres all arable emp 3 labourers and 2 boys
Janet Wallace 25 dairymaid (future wife) JeanWallace 22 servant and 2 lads

This James died in 1891. He and Janet had no children.

David L Houston founded the haulage firm of Houston Brothers with his brother John in 1924.
Houston Brothers carriers kept their lorries at Borland Farm from early 1930s. They were at Rigg Farm during the war and eventually in the Tanyard.

The large extended family would come down from Glasgow at weekends to stay in the large farmhouse.
