In Scotlands Places of 1855/57 there are two references to Longhouse. the first is close to the railway station and described as a number of houses, and the other is listed next to Holmhead and is a farm steading occupied by George Logan and owned by William Cunningham Esq. The reference in the 1851 census to "New Langhouse" may indicate that the farmhouse has been replaced?
