Hillhead, New Cumnock

This one is a bit of mystery as it is only marked as a hill. No building found on any maps.

The only entry for Hillhead in Scotlands Places 1855-1857 is:
Hillhead - A knowe 18 chains south of Burnton Farmhouse

No farm horse tax found

Births/Baptisms in Hillhead of Lowes per New Cumnock OPRs  This is not the same place. It became Mid Lowes.

04/04/1708 - Ellison Bell            Parents: Thomas Bell & Janet Lockie in Hillhead
29/03/1710 - John Bell                              Thomas Bell & Janet Lockie in Hillhead of Lowes

01/01/1744   Helen McTurk                       William McTurk & Jean Hair in Hillhead

No Hillhead in the 1841 census

The 1851 census for Hillhead shows James Campbell age 34yrs farming 118 acres. Also living there is his wife Marion 36 and their children James 13, William 11, Jean 8, Janet 6 and John 2yrs old. They are assisted by 16yr old Ann McDougald who is their housemaid. This family had moved to Balmaclellan, Kirkcudbrightshire by the 1861 census.

This  1851 entry is recorded between Burnside (which  is probably Burnside of Rigg) and Rigg then Rigghead , and I guess it’s a name that was applied to one of the Rigg propertiess in the upper reaches of the Nith so nowhere near the Hillhead at Burnton.

There doesn't seem to be another census for Hillhead after 1851.

The Valuation Roll for 1855 shows Burnton and Hillhead together. They are owned by the Marquis of Bute and tenanted by William Pagan.

The Valuation Rolls for 1865 and 1875  show only Burnton with no mention of Hillhead.
