Hannahston, Ochiltree

 Location also Hannieston, Hannaystoune, Hannaston

The farm buildings are still there, on the left on the road north out of Drongan. The name is preserved in Hannahston Avenue, Drongan. 
When the parish boundaries changed in 1892 Hannahston was brought into Ochiltree parish (Hay/Shennan report).

1841 John Knox 50, farmer with Cathren 40, Agnes 20, John 18, Elizabeth 17, Cathren 15, Mary 13, William 3, Adam Pettigrew 15, ag lab., and Janet Clark 55 from Ireland, a travelling beggar.

1851 Robert Mair from the farm of Craigbrae, Stair 30, with wife Margaret 19 (Wilson) and daughter Agnes under 1. Also James Wilson 13, brother in law, and Grace Laidlaw 18, and John Hendry 14, servants.
1861 Robert Mair 40 is a widower and farmer of 100 acres with children Agnes 10, Isabella 9, William 7 and servants Sarah Gemmell 25, dairymaid, John Garrie 20, ploughman. Andrew Reid 15, shepherd, and Jessie Currie 15, Byremaid.
1871 Robert 50 has remarried and had more children with wife Sarah (McCartney) 43. Agnes, Isabella and William are employed on the farm and the new children are John 8, James 7, Sarah 5, Maggie 3 and David under 1.  William Kennedy 17 is a farm servant.

1881 census Hannieston Robert Mair 60 Farmer (Of 135 Acres Employing 1 Boy) wife Sarah (McCartney) 5 children, John 18, James 17, Sarah 15, Margaret 13, and David 10, and farm servant John Currie 14. 

Robert died in 1890 at Hannieston

1891 census Hannieston John Mair 28 farmer, James 27 is a forester, and Maggie 25 and David 20.  Rebecca Agnew 16 is their farm servant.

1901 census Hannieston John Mair 41 wife Martha (Kennedy) brother David 28, ploughman,  3 small children, Robert 4, James 3, and Jessie 1.  Janet Hewitson 17, and Agnes McDowal 15 are general servants.

In 1919 the farms on the estate of Drongan were put up for sale when John Mair purchased the farm he had been renting.

1935 Robert Mair is proprietor and occupier of house and farm of Hannahston, but some of the ground has been let to neighbours - David Knox at Lane farm, Agnes Brannan, Andrew Adjint, Robert Cumming, and John Mathieson for a billiard saloon and shop.  The farm is being encroached by the new town of Drongan.
