1841 census for East Tarbeg.
John Strathern 70 is farming with Helen 60, Hugh 30, and John 25, both  blacksmiths, Jane 20, and William 20, agricultural labourer, and Agness  and Mary, both 15, and Euphemia 14.
Note that it would be easy to assume from the ages of the children that there were two sets of twins in the family.  Actually, the 1841 census had a policy of rounding down ages to the nearest multiple of five.

1851 census for East Terbeg
John Strathern now 80 is still farming 58 acres and employing 4 labourers.  His wife Helen is 60.  John Strathern son, is 36 and a blacksmith journeyman and the rest of their family at home are Jane 34, William 32, Agnes 29, Mary 26 and Euphemia 24.  They have an errand boy, Adam McGregor 13.

By 1861 William Strathern 45 has taken over the farm of 44 acres employing 1 boy.  His brother John 49, is a master blacksmith. Sisters Jane 47, Agnes, Mary 38, and Euphemia 36 also live at East Terbeg.

In 1871 William is farming 50 acres arable and employing 1 boy. John 57, is a master blacksmith and has two apprentices, Walter Johnston 16, and James Brown 15. Sisters Jane, Agnes, Mary and Euphemia are still unmarried and working on the farm alongside their brother.

"........nobody could make a better plough, or put on exactly the correct amount of "cut" and "feather" than John Strawhorn"
From Matthew Mair Osborne at the Ochiltree Schoolfellow's reunion 1894

After this date there is no reference to any land being associated with East Tarbeg.  It seems from the Valuation Rolls that the lands of East Tarbeg have been amalgamated with Mid Tarbeg.

In 1881, East Tarbeg is home to Hamilton Gibson 39, a railway surfaceman, wife Jane 36, and daughter Jane S 13.  Also with them is Jane Denham 63, mother in law and agricultural labourer's widow.

1891 and William McMillan 37, a hill drainer and wife Elizabeth 35 are living at East Tarbeg with son James 13, and daughter Margaret under 1.
