The 1841 census shows James Murdoch age 60 as a farmer at Rigg Farm with his son Matthew age 22 and daughters Ann age 20 and Barbara age 15 and Hugh McKenzie age 12yrs. John is a widower his late wife being Anne Fleming. On his son William’s death certificate John is described as a farmer and quarry master. He died in Maneight , New Cumnock on 11/7/1864.

The 1841 census shows James Murdoch age 60 as a farmer at Rigg Farm with his son Matthew age 22 and daughters Ann age 20 and Barbara age 15 and Hugh McKenzie age 12yrs. John is a widower his late wife being Anne Fleming. On his son William’s death certificate John is described as a farmer and quarry master. He died in Maneight , New Cumnock on 11/7/1864.
The 1851 census shows that son Matthew has taken over the running of the farm with his wife Mary.
The 1881 census lists Andrew Lees 43 as joint farmer of Rigg. With him are niece Elizabeth Sloss 19, nephew John Sloss 14, nephew Thomas McFarlane 6, and Agness Sloss 28, general servant.
They have 3 young sons under 4yrs old. Also lodging there is John Murdoch his brother, a carter who in 1861 was farming in Maneight. By 1861 Matthew had moved to Balmaclellan, Kirkcudbrightshire.
The 1861 census shows Robert McWhirter farming 93 acres with his wife Janet, 3 sons under 6yrs old, 3 daughters age 14yrs and under. Agnes McMillan and Jane Lees both from Righill were visiting.
