The 1851 census shows James Girvan 54 farmer of 60 acres employing 3men, 1 woman and 1 boy. Also living there is his wife Jane (Murdoch - dtr of David Murdoch of Dalsalloch)  59, son James 28, son William 24, son David 21,  1 boy and 1 female general servant.
