1765 banns for Margaret Sloan daughter of Hugh Sloan in Whitehill to Matthew Borland weaver in Calton (Coylton?) married 15 November 

Horse Tax 1797-98  Charles Wyllie, Whitehill,  2 horses.
1851 census has David Boyle and wife Jean Borland both 60 farming 110 acres with son Adam ploughman, son William, servants Janet Patrick and Thomas Waugh. (The Boyles were inCanada by 1866.)
1861 census has David Purdie and wife Mary Hastings, their 7 small children nephew William Stevenson and teenage servant Margaret Tait
1871 census Whitehill shows John Howat Head Married Male 63 1808 Farming 140 Acres Arable Employing Own Family (and a female servant)
1881 census John Howat 79, wife Agnes  (Connel) 55 farming 140 acres arable.  They have four adult sons, Mungo 33, Alexander 31, James 21, Andrew 18 and Agnes 16 daughter.  A further two sons John 13 and William 9 are scholars and they have on live in servant Elizabeth Crichton 14.
