It is now surrounded by opencast.

Residing in the house are James Murray, 49 his wife Janet (Smith), and five daughters nine years old and younger. They have a governess, Kate Rose, and servants living in. Maggie is seven years old.

John Montgomerie, grandson of James Murray through his daughter Maggie and farmer at the Muir from 1934 to until his untimely death reported in the Cumnock Chronicle in 1967.
