Location 55 21 08N, 4 18 43W.


Note proximity to McNaught (Maneight) Hill.  The two farms may have been let together on occasions.

1841 Alexander Hamilton 60, Jane 35, Jane 3, John 2, Mary under one.  James Blackwood 15, Thomas Torrance 12, William Pettigrew 13, Jane Torrance 14, Mary Hyslop 15.

1851 George Maiden 30 with wife Jane W 25 farming 2362 acres.  They have two children, John 3 and Robert under 1. Servants are Jane Kerr 23, Margaret McMillan 11, and James McMillan 18, shepherd.

1861 John Lees 66, shepherd and wife Elizabeth 43, son Andrew 22 and William 15, nephew Cochran Nimus 5, servant Robert McMillan 17, shepherd, and Mary Reed visitor 20.
1871 John Lees, 53, shepherd, with wife Elizabeth 52, son Andrew 32, daughter Janet 25, and Elizabeth Sloss grand daughter 7 and John Sloss, grandson 4.  Servants are Margaret McGill 14, and Elizabeth Howat 22.


The 1881 census shows Robert Craig 35 and wife Margaret 26 farming 3800 acres with about 500 arable employing 10 men 2 boys and 5 women.  They have 3 children James, William and John, two shepherds James Pollock 18 and Hugh Craig 20, and three general servants John Hyslop 47, James Meggat 64, and Thomas Hamilton 17, Bella Baird 25, Jane Montague 20, and visitor Jane Pollock 58, shepherd's wife.
In another household at Meiklehill there is the Kelly family. James 31, shepherd, and wife Mirrion 24 with sons James and George Sanderson Kelly both 2, and Lizzie JM under 1.  Catherine Dempster is a nurse servant 13.
In 1891 the Craig family have moved to Mansfield Village, Craig Villa, New Cumnock, and Robert 45 is listed as a farmer.

1891 John Paterson 38, shepherd with wife Jane 43, and sons James 10, Robert 7, William 4, Thomas 1, and daughters Margaret 8, and Elizabeth 5.  Visiting is Alexander McMorran 39, shepherd.
