The 1841 census shows William Brown 50 farming Loudonston with his wife Ann 45, Mary Ann Brown 15, Isabella 14, Jennet 12, William Gemmell male servant and James Martin 15. The 1851 census shows Thomas Campbell 28 farmer of 111 acres employing 2 labourers with his brother John 22 working as a farm labourer and 1 female house servant. The lands of Loudonston were amalgamated into the farm of Dormiston in possession of the Hood family. The 1861 census shows widow Jean (Keirs) Murdoch 35 a wool spinner living there along with her son John 10 and lodger Thomas Murdoch 30 a farm labourer. (Previously Muirston, P of Stair) The 1871 census shows James Woodburn 51 an agricultural labourer with his wife Isabella (McMillan) 51, their son Robert 18 a pitheadman and five other children. The 1881 census shows John Woodburn 62 an agricultural labourer living there with his wife Isabella and their family. The 1891 census shows Loudonston now being occupied by Hugh Cowan an underground fireman and his wife and family.
