The 1841 census has William Kay 40, farming along with Jane 35, James 12, John 9, William 7, Andrew 5, Alexander 2 and Agness 1 month. Also Elizabeth Steven 14.
1851 William is 51 and a widower farming 36 acres employing 1 labourer. sons James 22, John 19 (curling stone maker), Andrew 14, and Alexander 12, and daughter Agnes 10.
1871 William is 72 and farming 42 acres, 40 arable and employing 2 labourers. There is wife Isabella 54, Archibald 19, Thomas 18, Andrew 15, and Ann 12. their employees are James Miller 26 and George Black 23.
1881 census shows Isabella Kay 65 head of the household with her son Archibald 29 and daughter Ann 22 farming 40 acres arable. Archibald is also listed as being a curling stone maker.
In 1930 the farm was put up for sale along with the others remaining in the Polquhairn estate. It was advertised with the rental income of £14.10.0.

1861 finds the Kay family moved to Sinclairston, and it seems that they retained the land at Hayhill which is close by.
Resident at Hayhill are The McCloud family, James McCloud a master tailor, and the McCalls, Mary 66 and annuitant, daughter Jane 24 a hand sewer, and Jane Loung grand daughter 3.

In 1930 the farm was put up for sale along with the others remaining in the Polquhairn estate. It was advertised with the rental income of £14.10.0.
Developed into a row of semi-detached miner's cottages in the 1930s, on the land immediately across the road ( north ) of the steading. ( RMS lived there for 6 months 2019)
The steading and land around it now being developed as private housing 2018-2020.
