Auchinleck Churchyard 1866
This is a transcript from the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald from January 27, 1866.
From and old grave-stone that has been recently repaired, we learn that David Boswell of Craigstone has been laird of several farms in that neighbourhood, all of which are taken up more or less with the iron-works.  The following is the inscription on the stone at the south-west corner of the old Burying Ground. -

"Here lyeth the corps of the deceased David Boswell, Laird of Craigstone, Pathead, Dickstone, Braehead, Burnside, and Bello-Miln, who departed this Life Upon The 30 Day of Novr. in the Year of God 1728, Leaving Behind Him Jean Hunter, His Spouse, 3 Sons and 5 Daughters.  Here leyes His consecrated Dust, Whose Constant Care It Was Oblidging to All, Compassionate to the Destryest, Useful to Serve His Friends, Forgiven to His Foes."

One of his daughters married the Laird of Knockcreen, and is now represented by the Boswells of Garallan.  Through another of the daughters they are represented in the family of Gibbs, whose great great great grandson, Sir Alexander Boswell Gibb, has recently renewed the stone.

Craikston or Craigston, acquired from William Logan in 1726, included a part of Burnside. It was let to Thomas Dickie, whose grass crop was rouped in 1783, to Alexander Dunbar and Andrew McTurk for grazing in 1783, to David Kennedy who was sequestered in 1786, and to William McKerrow in Woodside in 1786 and 1797. Its houses and offices were rebuilt in 1789.
