The 1871 census shows still unmarried John Lamont 67 farming 100 acres. He is assisted by Thomas Kerr a male domestic servant, his niece Margaret Kerr (Campbell), Thomas & Margaret's 2 sons ages 6 and 3 and 2 female domestic servants.
The 1881 census shows John Lamont now 75 and still unmarried farming 90 acres all arable employing 1 man and 2 women. Also living there is Thomas Kerr 40 farm servant and his wife Margaret, their 2 sons and 1 daughter, 1 female general domestic, William Campbell a 52yr old wine merchant, Hannah Barclay 45 a builder's wife and Jess Barclay 13yrs.
