Blackfauld, Old Cumnock

Location on OS six inch first edition map, near Loganhill

Not to be confused with Blackfauld or Blackfaulside in Auchinleck parish.

Alternate name  Blackfaulds, Blackfold
Blackfauld Square is to the north west

Old Cumnock - Births : Jannet Mackervail born 24/8/1735 Lawful daughter to James Mackervail & Margaret Mitchell in Blackfold and James McErvail born 7/5/1738 in Blackfold  (same parents)

son lawful Howatson in Blackfauld was baptised 1743. No other names given 17 July 1743


OPR child born 27 Dec 1815 to Jean Connell in Blackfauld (child James Wyllie, father David Wyllie mason in Cumnock. Jean who died by 1816)  daughter of John Connell farmer in Blackfauld and Jean Reid
also in Kirk Session Minutes 1816.

James Weir was born in Blackfaulds, Cumnock 22/3/1748. He was married to Jean Mitchell and died in Auchengibbert. His children were all born in Blackfaulds between 1766 and 1790. His youngest child was born in Dalblair Farm Auchinleck.

Death Certificate: Marion Murdoch widow of John Murdoch farmer died at Blackfauld Cumnock on 5/8/1862 age 89yrs. Fa: Robert Kerr farmer decd Mo: Margaret Kerr ms Mitchell decd. Inf John Murdoch son Shield.
NB. in 1861 census Marion was living at Ryderston Old Cumnock (this is in the vicinity of Netherthird)

These are censuses for Blackfaulds but unsure whether these are for the Farm or for perhaps a hamlet?

1871 - John McDugald. Blackfauld Square - coal mine oversman
1881 - John McDugald, Blackfauld Square - coal mine manager 
1891 - John McDougall, Blackfaulds - coal and ironstone mine oversman

James Cameron, a land steward died at Blackfaulds in 1889

The railway line from Glasgow to Carlisle was built beside it in 1850. This may have contributed to its eventual demise.

Valuation Rolls
no entries until 1930 when Hugh MacLanachan is shown as proprietor of a house and George Glencorse as tenant of a house.  
1935 shows tenants in several houses but there is no mention of a farm.
1940 again Hugh MacLanachan is the proprietor of a house at Blackfauld maybe this man at nearby Loganhill
