1841 census shows Robert McCartney age 80yrs old farming with Alexander McCartney 40, 2 manservants, 3 female farm servants and 3 lodgers
1851 census shows Robert's son Alexander McCartney and his wife Mary (Struthers) farming 84 acres employing 3 farm labourers, 1 housemaid and an 11 years old girl employed as a cow herd.
1861 census shows Alexander McCartney 60 farming 100 acres with his wife Mary, Margaret McCartney age 19yrs as a dairymaid, 1 ploughman, 1 female domestic servant and 3 male agricultural labourers.
1871 census shows Hugh Meikle farming 176 acres of which 126 are arable with his wife Marion Boyd, father-in-law John Boyd 73 annuitant, Elizabeth Murdoch granddaughter, Elizabeth Marton granddaughter/servant, 1 ploughman, 1 male agricultural labourer and 2 general servants (domestic).
NB. Hugh and Marion's daughter Marion died in 1868 at Rigghead. She had married David Murdoch in 1864 at Rigghead. She left behind 2 surviving children. David emigrated to North Carolina where he died while the children remained with their grandparents. Both children are mentioned in his will.
The 1881 census shows Hugh Meikle and his wife Marion, granddaughter Elizabeth Murdoch, niece Margaret Byd, 1 ploughman, 1 male general servant and 2 female general servants.
The 1891 census shows Hugh Meikle 77 and his wife Marion 68. Their granddaughter Elizabeth Marton age 25yrs is employed a a farmer errand child. There is also 1 dairymaid, 1 female domestic servant, 1 male farm servant and Thomas Meikle a retired draper who is visiting.

The 1901 census shows Thomas Lindsay farming with his wife Agnes (Meikle), 1 son and 2 daughters age 9yrs and under, Sarah Lindsay a 17yr old domestic servant and 2 male farm servants. Agnes Meikle was a grand niece of Hugh Meikle.
