Knowe which included Corse and part of Burn, was let to Alexander Pedin n 1782, to Alexander and William Pedin in 1787, to William Pedin in 1792, the same year he was ordained elder, and to William and James Pedin, later in Tenshillingside, in 1798.

William Peddan farmer Knowe Parish of Auchinleck who died 9/10/1882 at Knowe testate. Conf granted at Ayr to John Sloan Pedan farmer Knowe his son, John Begg farmer Birnieknowe P of Auchinleck and William Smith farmer Thirdpart in said Parish. Executors.

1851 Census- Knowe, P of Auchinleck shows
William Pedan 50 - farmer of 104 acres assisted by his wife Margaret (Sloan) 51, son William 25 who is employed on the farm and daughters Jean 23 and Janet 20 who are employed at home.
The 1861 census for Knowe shows William Peden now 60 farming 120 acres employing 2 labourers and 1 boy. Also living there is his wife Margaret 61, their son William 35, their daughters Helen 24 and Elizabeth 22 who are dairymaids and 1 male labourer.
The 1871 census for The Knowe shows William Peden now 70 farmer of 140 acres arable employing 1 man and 2 women. He is assisted by his wife Margaret 71 and aforesaid 1 male farm servant and 2 female farm servants.
The 1881 census for Knowe Farm shows William Peden 81 and wife Margaret 81- farmer of 150 acres all arable emp 2 men 2 girls. They have family helping they are; John 40, Sarah S.(Sloan) daughter in law 27, Sarah W grand daughter 4 months, and servants Joanna Weir 28, dairymaid, and Sarah Miller 15 general domestic.
William died at Knowe 9/10/1882 age 82 and son John died 11/6/1887 age 46 also at Knowe
So by 1891 Knowe has changed hands. John 40 and George 37 Templeton, who are brothers, are now joint farmers there, while their sister Elizabeth 50 is housekeeper, another sister Jessie 29 is dairymaid and niece Elizabeth Templeton 17 is a general servant.
The 1901 census shows the brothers John 50 and George 47 Templeton are still joint farmers at Knowe Farm assisted by another brother William 63 who is a widower working as a labourer, married brother James 52 a manure agent, James's wife Martha 43, sister Elizabeth 60 and still their housekeeper. 2 female general domestics and Daniel Templeton 20 an upholsterer's assistant who is visiting.
